This scholarship is being established in memory of a leading voice in the life science communities in Pittsburgh, Boston and beyond. Carolyn Green was an inspiration and a force, an incredibly talented, loving and intelligent woman who created waves in the life science universe that will be felt for eternity. As a mentor, she taught young women to push past limits, to have confidence in their contributions, and to have the courage to ask for what they deserve. As a friend, she opened her heart and her family to many, supporting them in times of need, and celebrating with them in laughter and love.
Carolyn was a staunch advocate for women's rights, women as leaders and women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math). Carolyn was Executive Director, Strategic Investments for Pfizer’s Worldwide Research and Development, where she was responsible for a strategic venture capital fund which invests in early-stage biotechnology companies that are well aligned with Pfizer’s R&D strategy. With more than 20 years of operating and investment experience, much of Carolyn’s career was devoted to translating emerging scientific ideas into novel therapies to address unmet medical need.
With this scholarship, Carolyn is being remembered for her tireless support to emerging and established women who are seeking to build their leadership and executive opportunities in the life science field through the establishment of a scholarship funded by her peers, friends and fans so that other young women have opportunities to seek education that shapes them to lead in the field.
The scholarship will be for $2500, renewable for prior winners who continue to qualify. It should be used to further the opportunities of the winners in business related programs at a post-graduate level in any accredited educational institution in the world. Applicants will submit an essay detailing their educational choices, the rationale for their interest in life science leadership, their prior experiences in life science and what they hope to accomplish as a leader.
